Appointment of Non-Executive Chairman

Milton Keynes, 29th April 2008: Leading international health club operator, Virgin Active, today announces the appointment of Richard Baker as Non-Executive Chairman, effective from 1st May 2008.
Richard, who is 45, was Chief Executive of Boots Group plc from September 2003, and led its successful merger with Alliance Unichem to form Alliance Boots plc in July 2006.

Richard left the company in July 2007, following its acquisition by KKR. During his tenure the company’s performance was transformed, creating significant additional value for its shareholders.
Richard started his career with 10 years at Mars, before joining Asda in 1995, where he held a number of senior positions and was ultimately Chief Operating Officer. His appointment brings additional strength to Virgin Active's senior team.
