Virgin Active’s Katy’s a record breaker!
Membership consultant Katy Lee from the Manchester Virgin Active Printworks Health Club has set a world record performing the most Hula Hoop spins in 60 seconds.
Katy had not practised for the record and simply took a chance at a charity event. She was approached by an organiser and agreed to swing into action for the Hula Hoop challenge - and delighted the large crowd with an astonishing 145 rotations in one minute.
And she helped set another record by taking part in the world’s longest distance travelled for a hula hoop conga dance line which lasted for 8.2705 mins. and covered 274.6 metres with colleague Jenni Cubitt, a Virgin Active Fitness Consultant.
The 22-year-old said: "It’s really good. Obviously not everyone is a world record holder.

"I did not really get involved until that morning. It was not something that I planned.
"But if I do something I like to do it properly so I gave it my all."
The world records were part of the The Printworks annual Easter Sunday Swing event and due to the glorious weather saw an audience of 22,000 people. The day had a 50s theme and was dedicated to fun and games with all the traditional classics making a comeback, including hopscotch, whip and top and shove halfpenny.
With the current launch of Hulaerobics at Virgin Active it seemed fitting to join the event and revoke some childhood memories. The Printworks challenged its visitors to try and beat some Hula records with all entry proceeds being donated to charity.
Local boy nine-year-old Oliver Hurst joined Kate’s success by smashing the Hula Hoop record in the under 18s category with 138 spins in 60 seconds - just seven spins short of Katy’s achievement.
