V-Tread is a brand new workout class exclusive to Virgin Active clubs, launching nationwide from April 2007. Following the success and popularity of ‘Group Cycling’ in the UK, V-Tread adopts the ‘Group Cycling’ style of ‘group motivational’ concept and its varied workout options but instead applies it to the treadmill - still the most popular gym equipment in the UK.
V Tread will take place in the main workout area of every club, meaning that participants can try a Group Exercise session in a familiar, comfortable environment. The workouts will encourage all levels of fitness from beginner to advanced as well as attract people of all ages allowing each individual to work out at their own specific level whilst in a group environment.

Classes are set to last 30 minutes inclusive of a 5-minute warm up and cool down
at the beginning and end of each session. Also despite the running perception of
working out on a treadmill, participants will be given the opportunity to instead
choose a level that is comfortable for them with many variations so as not to make
the workout long, repetitive and monotonous.
Working out as a group
Studies into individual motivation towards exercise show that when exercising as a group has proven to heighten motivational drive and interest as well as increase fitness levels as people push themselves a little further that what they would do by working out individually. The instructor motivation help propel people to reach their fitness potentials more positively instead of being dragged down by feelings of fitness inadequacy.
