BALLSY INNOVATION FROM VIRGIN ACTIVE

A ballsy innovation from Virgin Active

Virgin Active is once again proving why it is one of the UK’s leading health club by introducing another UK first in its clubs nationwide - the brand-new BOSU Ballast Ball.

The BOSU Ballast Ball is the latest innovation from David Weck, the creator of the BOSU balance trainer - a piece of equipment that has enjoyed phenomenal success since Virgin Active pioneered its introduction as a group exercise class in 2006.

The next evolution in ball training, the BOSU Ballast Ball, takes the fit ball one step further, combining a stability ball with an unstable weighted load to create a dynamic tool for a whole-body workout experience.

This weighted material (also known as DSL or Dynamic Stabilizing Load) shifts as you move the ball thus creating a more dynamic resistance during lifting and shifting. This in turn promotes enhanced integrated and fluid movement.

The BOSU Ballast Ball makes it possible to perform new exercises and allows for better execution of a wide variety of seated, side-lying and travelling exercises involving dumbbells, kettlebells and medicine balls. One of the most versatile characteristics of the ball is that members can perform throwing, catching, lifting and shifting reps in a more dynamic manner than when using weighted medicine balls. The BOSU Ballast Ball can be used for individual and personal training and also group exercise or circuit workouts because the ball doesn’t roll around.

Virgin Active is the first to introduce the BOSU Ballast Ball into a group exercise environment. The ballast ball will be introduced initially within the Virgin Active "Fast Class" concept - a free instructor led 15-minute session on the gym floor, open to all members, providing an array of exciting new short duration workouts to keep members motivated and provide variety to their training.

In addition to hundreds of exercises, the BOSU Ballast Ball can also serve as a "bench" (work platform) or an extension to an existing bench set-up. Unlike non-weighted balls, using the Ballast Ball allows the trainer to put a client in a stable position with or without additional exercise platforms. Because it is stable, the ball can serve as a portable seat or dynamic work station with any type of strength or functional training equipment.
