Virgin Active in the community

We think of ourselves as much more than just a health club. Each Virgin Active plays an active part in the life of its surrounding community. We love getting stuck in with charity events and fundraising activities for local good causes. And we’re enthusiasticyally involved in encouraging healthy living beyond the walls of our clubs.

Our new charity partner - Sparks

We are proud to support Sparks, the charity that funds high quality medical research into childhood diseases. Currently one in every 120 babies in the UK is born with congenital heart disease  (CHD). Some require surgery straight after delivery; others require ongoing treatment and medication throughout their childhood – which make it difficult to live a healthy, active lifestyle. Sparks wants to change all that by funding a potentially life-saving technique that may improve prenatal diagnosis of CHD. At Virgin Active, we love putting our fundraising support behind causes that improve the lives of children. Now that we’re working with Sparks, we have the chance to make a real difference to future generations.

Our £100,000 mission

Virgin Active support Sparks: helping babies with Congenital Heart Disease

Virgin Active has pledged to raise £100,000 to fund new research by Sparks into Congenital Heart Disease in babies and young children. Every year, 4,600 babies are born with congenital heart disease in the UK.  Every penny that Virgin Active employees and members raise will go towards this pioneering research, and we’ll be holding fundraising events throughout 2011 to support this great cause.

It only takes a minute to help out. Just click here to donate - Sparks receives an additional 25p for every pound you donate through Virgin Money Giving. (Select the Gift Aid option when you donate.) Alternatively You’ll find collection tins for Sparks on all our Reception desks. Drop your spare change when you can, or for larger donations, ask the Virgin Active staff to put it through the till.
