Inclusive tennis courses: a smashing idea

As part of our racquets memberships, you can take part in group tennis coaching sessions at no extra cost. Whether you’re a beginner or improver, these sessions will help improve your game whilst learning with a group of members all of a similar ability to you.

Our brand new learn-to-play tennis programme is the perfect starting point for tennis novices. From rules to techniques to shot types, we’ll guide you through to really get you into the swing of things.

If you don’t have tennis included in your membership, we’ve got smashing news for you. If you fancy a game of tennis, you can now book a court on the day absolutely free. We’ll even lend you the racquets. If you fancy upgrading your membership to include 7 day court bookings, tennis coaching and club nights, please ask at reception.

Virgin Active runs Cardiff

Like Jay-Z and Rhianna, we run this town.  Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner or a budding Mo Farah, Virgin Active Cardiff’s Run Club is the perfect place to get your feet in motion. The majority of the group took part in the Cardiff half marathon in October and various other running events throughout the year. If you don’t feel you’re quite up to that standard yet there’s no need to worry as all abilities are welcome.  This lively social group meet up back at the club on Thursday evening for a coffee and a chat.

Join our marathon man on Henry Thursday at 6.30pm when they run from the club and Tuesday 7pm in Roath Park. Ask Henry about joining the running club email list.  You can also now book all of your classes online.

Fast but not furious

If you’re struggling to squeeze in the time for a full hour class or want to find out what a Kettlebell is, our Fast Classes are perfect for you.  They’re packed full of heart pumping and body sculpting exercises, plus you’ll learn a few new techniques to add to your workout too. All in 20 minutes of less.

Get to grips with TRX, ViPR, Kettlebells, Power Plates or work on your abs in V-Core.  If you fancy mixing things up a little, our Fusion Fast Class picks the best bits from each and puts them into a vigorous 20 minute workout.

No need to book, just show up and see a member of our Fitness Team.  The full list of classes is available online, at reception or on the gym floor.

Serving up more Cardio Tennis sessions

You’ve asked and we’ve listened. From 4th March, we’ve added another 2 Cardio Tennis sessions. Never tried it before? This is our LTA-endorsed group exercise class – awesome for people of any tennis ability. In 1 hour, you’ll burn up to 800 calories as you run, jump, bounce and swing around our courts to adrenaline-pumping tunes. It’s the ideal class to meet your fellow tennis enthusiasts!

All of our Cardio Tennis classes are inclusive for both tennis and health & fitness members. You can even borrow a racquet from reception if you don’t own one.

Join us on court Monday 12.30pm and Friday 6pm along with our regular sessions on Wednesday at 12.30pm and 6pm.

The lowdown on Kettlebells

Virgin Active was the first health club chain in the UK to bring Kettlebells into our clubs en masse back in 2005.  8 years later and we love them even more!

What’s so great about them?  Firstly, they’re amazing for fat loss where you’ll burn around 20 – 30 calories per minute.  If that wasn’t good enough, Kettlebells are also great for improving your strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, posture and even reduce lower back pain.  And because this is Virgin Active and we love teaching our members the best ways of getting the most out of their workout, we run 20 minute fast classes perfect for beginners or more advanced users wanting a few new exercises.
