Love Handles

byLaura Higginson

Ahhhh Valentine’s Day. Romantic dinners, champagne (and some…um…bedroom workouts). An average session in the bedroom burns between 50-100 calories - but it’s going to take a whole lot more then that to shift those love handles (or should we say loathe handles?)

Here are some tips for getting rid of the handles for good:

Let’s start with the bad news: love handles are nothing but excess fat so there isn’t one single exercise that will get shot of them. It takes effort and a series of exercises to make them shrink into submission. To burn off the flab, you need a combination of resistance and cardio training.

So how the hell do you get rid of them?

Our UK Personal Training Specialist, Constantinos Yiallouros, explains; ‘The key element to help lose your love handles? 70% nutrition and diet, 30% workout. You need to build shape and muscle – so it’s vital to manage both diet and exercise (not just one or the other)’.

Ok – so what kind of exercise should you be doing?

Gillian Reeves our National Group Exercise Manager tells us:

‘Aim to do three  cardio and two resistance training sessions a week. Cardio training could be running, fast walking, swimming or you could try classes such a Spinning or Zumba. Resistance training could be Body Pump classes or hitting the gym and using the TRX, ViPR or free weights. And of course, the twisting motions found in Zumba and the Puma Faas Class are perfect if you’re looking to tone up.’

Stick with us and your ‘love’ handles will soon be a thing of the past.
