Over the next few weeks, the world’s eyes will be on our magical capital city as it throws itself into the limelight and shows itself off to people across the globe. We’ll be on the edge of our seats watching the drama unfold, as athletes challenge the boundaries of human endeavour, to achieve their moment of glory.
And whilst the names of those that grab the gold will go down in history – for many of the athletes it really isn’t about the winning. It’s about being there in the first place, about running faster, jumping higher, performing better than ever they have done before. It’s about being proud of themselves for achieving their very best. There’s a little bit of that athlete inside us all.
"You can always become better" – Tiger Woods
First you need a goal
No-one ever won gold by accident. They had a gameplan. A series of smaller goals. So set yourself a challenge, no matter how small. Do an extra length of the pool. Ensure you get to the gym three times a week. Take that class you always promised you’d do but never found the time for. Cycle or run for charity. And step by step, the more you’ll do, the more you can achieve.
"Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still." Chinese proverb
Then just keep going
That’s the tough bit. Staying motivated and interested. And that’s where we come in. Our gym floor fitness team can suggest ways to keep you going when you feel like throwing in the towel. They can push you on to reach your best, and then some. Join in one of their Fast Classes or ask them to reset your programme. Our group exercise classes are full of like minded people who will spur you on. They are great fun too and they really work! And as the days turn to weeks, you’ll see how far you’ve travelled on your personal journey.
