Getting into a routine is fantastic. But what do you do when you feel like that routine is becoming more of a rut. When you get onto the gym floor ready to do your standard Monday morning workout and just think ‘Hmph. I’m bored of this’.
Finding something that you enjoy and keeping things interesting is key to combating boredom. Not only that, but studies show that you should be mixing up your workout routines around every 6 weeks so that you’re continuing to challenge your body and hitting different areas. Whether that change is swapping Saturday Cycling for a Grid class, or switching your swimming stroke.
When we repeat the same type of exercise, (for example running), repeatedly, our body adapts to it and we eventually burn fewer calories despite doing the same amount of exercise. You can also avoid a repetitive strain injury – which comes from repeating the same movement over and over.
You don’t have to change everything, but consider venturing away from the usual. This will also give your results a boost if you’re at a bit of a plateau
