What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day is a global celebration that happens every year on 8 March. Started in 1911, International Women’s Day is celebrating 115 years of striving towards gender equality.
While International Women’s Day is about raising the voices and celebrating the talents of women, it’s not about excluding other genders. It’s for everyone who cares about gender equality. According to its website, International Women’s Day is focused on:
“A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.”*
What is the theme of International Women’s Day 2026?
Every year, International Women’s Day has its own theme to give direction on how people can get involved. This year’s theme is: Give to Gain. It’s about being generous and collaborative so that we can reach gender equality sooner, and together.
The theme invites people to speak up, to challenge discrimination, to question bias and to call out stereotypes, all while celebrating wins big and small.
