Move Club is our gentle movement, low-impact class which encourages strength, stability and mobility without straining your body. Featuring seated chair exercises with bodyweight and light dumbbell (between 1-3kg) moves, Move Club is perfect for seniors and those with reduced mobility.

What is Move Club?

Move Club is our signature exercise workout for seniors which is gentle on joints but big on balance, strength and stability. Move Club gives you energy to enjoy more of the things you love, whether you want to lead a more active lifestyle or simply need regular movement to help your day-to-day mobility.

It’s a 45 minute low impact class which mainly uses bodyweight exercises to help you get your heart rate up and break into a gentle sweat. If you think you’re ready to turn the heat up a little, there’s also the option to add in light dumbbells and resistance bands.

What are the benefits of Move Club?

Move Club is designed to help your body work at its best. It’s great for working weak and stiff muscles as well as building strength in the long run, alongside stability and mobility. All while being gentle on your joints. It means that you’ll find it easier to go about your daily life.

Move Club also helps increase your heart rate for better cardiovascular health and gives you a chance to connect with other like-minded people in your community. (If you make some new friends, we’ve got a good place to grab a tea afterwards.)

Is it right for beginners?

Move Club is a great place to begin your fitness journey if you’re over 60 or have less mobility than you would like. Our friendly instructors are here to welcome you in and support your movement so you get the most out of the exercises. And speaking of exercises, they’re easy to understand – even if you’ve never been in a gym before. You can even adapt them when you’re at home.

But even though Move Club is brilliant for beginners, it’s also a great place to stay.

Is Move Club right for me?

Move Club is right for people who want to prioritise their wellness, using low-impact exercise that builds strength and mobility. If that sounds like you, then find a local Move Club class on the timetable at your local Virgin Active.

What kind of exercises do we do in Move Club?

Our classes feature balance training for seniors and chair exercises too, if you feel it’s a little difficult to stand. Everything is low-impact because we want to protect joints and show you that you can feel strong, more mobile and more stable without causing damage to your body.  Move Club will challenge all the key movement patterns that relate to your everyday activities.

Examples of Move Club exercises include standing marches, squats, presses, pulls, hinges and bicep curls.
