There’s more to engineering than you think. From working on key facilities to leading and working in a team, with a career as a Maintenance Engineer at Virgin Active you could be at the forefront of making sure our clubs keep our members workouts going. No two days are the same and we’re always on the hunt for highly-skilled people who can think on their feet. Looking for your next challenge? Why not join us? We’ve got lots of opportunities to get stuck in.

What does it take to be an engineer at Virgin Active?

What matters most to us is our people. Whether they’re our colleagues or our members, we want everyone to have an extraordinary experience at Virgin Active. That’s why we look for team members who bring something special.

As one of our engineers, we’d love you to be a multi-skilled tradesperson. But, even if you’re not, what we love to see most is a can-do attitude. We’re looking for people who are raring to get going, who can communicate well and love the team spirit.

A day in the life of a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Virgin Active

If you’re still not sure what to expect, I caught up with one of our Senior Maintenance Managers Ryan to find out. He’s been with Virgin Active for nearly 3 years, starting in our former Cricklewood club.

“I started my Virgin Active career as a Senior Maintenance Engineer.

“My day would usually start with completing daily and weekly checks to ensure that our club was operating safely and the key facilities, like the pools, heating and water systems, were operating as they should.

“After that, I would complete any planned reactive or preventative tasks based on priority and importance, completing these by myself or with support from the rest of the team. Some of the jobs were a little out of my remit, so I would coordinate contractor visits and manage their on-site performance to ensure they met our company’s requirements.

“Where we could keep some jobs in-house, I would help train our team members to carry out important tasks within the club that kept us compliant with health and safety measures.

“The whole of my role revolved around making sure that our club was a safe and secure place for our members and team which is why I was in charge of key health and safety compliance measures, like Fire systems and Water hygiene.

“I started my career with Virgin Active as a Senior Maintenance Engineer and I enjoyed what I was doing on a day-to-day basis but I actually got so much more out of it. I managed a team and played a part in helping my club win the award for The Best Club on the Rise in 2019 at our internal awards.

“I’m now a Senior Maintenance Manager with 7 engineers in my team supporting 4 clubs in North London.”

Has Ryan tempted you? We thought so. If you’re ready to kick start your career in one of the UK’s leading health clubs, then we want you to join our team. We look forward to hearing from you.
