As a beginner, a restarter or someone with specific goals in mind, Personal Training is one of the most powerful things you can do to get real results from your training. But hands up if you’ve ever felt that quiet dread in your stomach when a gym trainer comes over and asks whether you’ve ever thought of PT? Yup, been there.

The thing is, having a Personal Trainer isn’t about making you feel like you don’t have the power to go it alone. It’s about giving the power back to you with real support, bespoke development and a results-driven training plan.

So, if you’ve ever wondered whether Personal Training is right for you, the answer is probably: yes. But have a read and we’ll let you figure it out for yourself.

Key takeaways:

  • Personal Training is about empowering you and your goals

  • Personal Training can get you real results even quicker

  • The Virgin Active app lets you choose from 100s of PTs to pick the right fit for you

What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is bespoke, often 1:1 training where you work with someone who gets your goals. After telling them what you want to get out of your training, what event you’re working towards or what you’d like to do in a set period of time, you’ll work with your PT on a regular basis to get it done. This is all about your goals, done your way. So yes, while your PT will push you to get the most out of your moves, if you really hate burpees, they won’t make you do them. (Well, not for long anyway.)

Physical gains are just half the win. With a bespoke training plan from your fitness coach (and maybe some nutrition pointers too), you’ll gain confidence, inner strength and feel your energy shift.

Is Personal Training better than following my own workout routine?

Having a Personal Trainer is not necessarily better than doing your own workouts, but there are quite a few reasons that people love it.

Faster results

With more accountability and structured programming, Personal Training is a results-driven way to work out that gets you where you want to go. It’s not necessarily aimed at getting your goals as quickly as possible but people often find that it does. Whether that’s the structure, knowing what’s possible in a set period of time or the focus.

Bigger challenges

At some point in our training, we may plateau. We might fall out of love with the movement or we may feel like we just can’t get to the next level in our training. That’s where a PT comes in. They help identify where you can push yourself (and act as a spotter when you do), plus they help you strengthen your technique and other areas that might need sharpening.

Real results

Over time, your workouts can feel like you’re going through the motions. Especially if we don’t have any real understanding of where we want to go. Personal Training changes that. Suddenly every session is focused and gets you one step closer to your ultimate goal.

What is Personal Training like at Virgin Active?

Because we know that the gym can feel intimidating and how tricky finding the right PT can be, our Personal Trainers aren’t on power trips. They’re all about working at your pace, for your wellness with your goals in mind. They push your progress, not your buttons. In fact, our PT is all about progress over pressure but if you need someone to put the ‘grr’ in your ‘great work’, we have that too.

Plus, with nutrition-qualified Personal Trainers, your wellness continues from the weight plate to your dinner plate.

How do I find the right PT for me?

Finding the PT that fits you just right can often feel like the most difficult part of all. That’s why we’ve made it easier. The Virgin Active app lets you filter for a Personal Trainer based on your goals and training style.

Before you start looking for your gym trainer, ask yourself what you want to achieve and by when. It can also help if you think about the things that you’re not interested in and how you like to learn.

Do I need a gym trainer and is Personal Training right for me?

If you’re working towards specific goals or events, need help with staying accountable or are stuck in a plateau that you want to get out of, starting Personal Training can really help.

FAQs

What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is all about putting the focus on your unique wellness goals. You’ll work with a trainer on a 1:1 basis as part of a personalised training plan tailored to what you want to achieve.

Is PT better than my own workout routine?

Personal Training is often an addition to your workout routine. You’ll probably only work with your PT once per week and the rest of your training will be done alone but with their advice and structured training plan. Personal Training is not necessarily better than doing your own workout routine but it does give you someone who keeps you accountable, can help you challenge yourself and get you quicker results.
