24 Mar 2026 15:11PM by Virgin Active

We’re proud to have become an official HYROX Training Club, offering support to help you up your game, ready for your next race. Here’s everything you need to know about HYROX and how we’re supporting you on your journey.

What is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness competition which combines running with functional workout stations. The aim is to complete the circuit in as quick a time as you can.

  • 50m Sled Push

  • 50m Sled Pull

  • 80m Burpee Broad Jumps

  • 1,000m Rowing

  • 200m Farmer’s Carry

  • 100m Sandbag Lunges

  • 100 x Wall Balls

At the end of the race, you’ll have run 8km.

Who is HYROX for?

HYROX is for everyone with 4 categories to choose from. Go it solo in the Open event, team up with a partner for the Doubles event, grab a bigger team for the Relay or level up your game with the Pro series.

How do you train for HYROX?

Because HYROX workouts stay the same, it’s simple to start training for your first race. A good way to do it is to test your existing fitness on the exercises and build your strength and stamina from there.

Use your gym sessions to train strength and target certain exercises, then complement your training with running. For example, you may work lower-body strength in the gym one day, run the next day and create a HYROX-based circuit on your next session.

But, you definitely don’t have to go it alone. We’ve also got HYROX qualified Personal Trainers in our team who will design bespoke sessions for you to help you ace your race. Find a HYROX qualified Personal Trainer on our app to book in for 1:1 hybrid fitness. Each session will target the key movements, pacing strategies, and workout styles used in official HYROX competitions, helping you move better, faster, and with more confidence.

Oh, not only will you unlock serious race day gains, but Virgin Active members will get early access to all UK HYROX race tickets. Game on! Club-level affiliation codes will be shared with members via app or email when UK pre-registration opens for each upcoming event.

FAQs

ABOUT HYROX

What is HYROX?

HYROX is an indoor fitness competition that alternates 1km runs with functional workout stations, repeated 8 times. It combines endurance and strength using movements like rowing, sled push/pull, burpees and wall balls.

How hard is HYROX training?

HYROX training can be tricky but with practice it’s totally manageable. The HYROX Open event is designed for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Do you need to be fit for HYROX?

Having a basic level of fitness is useful when you’re starting HYROX as the event can be quite physically demanding. It’s also important to get to grips with the right technique before you start to avoid injury.

How do I train for HYROX?

The best way to train for HYROX is with a HYROX qualified PT. They’ll support you with a bespoke plan which is created for your learning style and targets your weak spots.

Is HYROX only for elite athletes?

No - HYROX training can be adapted to different fitness levels. Your coach can adjust loads, pacing, and movement variations to match your ability.

Do I have to compete to do HYROX training?

No - You can train for fitness, performance goals, or as preparation for an event later. We’re here for it!

VIRGIN ACTIVE AFFILIATION AND WHAT IT MEANS

What does it mean that Virgin Active is now a HYROX Training Club?

Our clubs will now be affiliated as HYROX Training Clubs, meaning we will now offer supported HYROX training through our Personal Trainers, plus access to UK event pre-registration when available.

Which clubs are included?

All UK clubs will be affiliated by March 2026.

TRAINING IN CLUB

Will there be HYROX classes on the Group Exercise timetable?

We don’t have dedicated HYROX classes yet - for now, sessions are delivered via Personal Training, but we do have Hybrid S&C classes every week.

What HYROX training options will be available to members?

You can start with a HYROX taster session which is complimentary, then progress into PT-led HYROX training.

How do I book a HYROX taster session?

You can ask at reception, complete the PT sign-up form online, or contact a HYROX qualified PT via the app in the Trainer section.

My club does not have all the HYROX equipment. Can I still train properly?

Yes. Clubs have equivalent equipment and movement alternatives that can be used to train for all stations. Coaches will guide you on substitutes and technique.

RACE ENTRY AND PRE-REGISTRATION

How does HYROX event pre-registration work for members?

When UK pre-registration opens, club-level affiliation codes will be shared with members via app or email.

Can I use pre-registration codes for races outside the UK?

No. At this stage, pre-registration codes are for UK events only.

Will pre-registration help me get tickets for any race?

Not always. Some events are already on sale and may not have additional allocation.

I did not receive a pre-registration email. Why?

Members not opted in to marketing communications may not receive marketing emails. Ask in club if you think you missed a code.
