meet Becky, your Nutrition Activist

How did you get into nutrition?

I started in Sports and Exercise Science, and moved onto a Masters in Exercise Physiology and completed a PhD. It was during my PhD that I started training as a Performance Nutritionist with The EIS and working in Olympic and professional sports.

What's your role as an Activist?

There are two aspects to the role, PT facing and member facing. For PTs, it includes creating a nutrition certificate that will be part of the Academy, as well as supporting with advice on nutrition. For members, working on everything they see, from cafe menus to a nutrition ‘package’.

Do you have any advice for anyone interested in nutrition?

Make sure you're going to accredited sources for basic information e.g. British Dietetic Association, British Nutrition Foundation and Gatorade Sports Science Institute.

meet Tal, your Yoga Activist

Why did you get into fitness?

I initially got into fitness more than 25 years ago when I was tired of feeling the way I did. I joined a gym, and a few years later I was still there, teaching fitness classes!

What's your role as an Activist?

I’m currently in the midst of creating a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher training, and working with our instructors to deliver the best Yoga classes for our members.

What is your top tip for Living Happily Ever Active?

Don’t punish yourself with fitness and exercise, do what you find motivating, fun, and makes you feel good. And…one of my mottos for many things can definitely apply to fitness…"don’t let the perfect, be the enemy of the good.”

meet Kyle, your Cycle Activist

Why did you get into fitness?

I've taken part in sports for as long as I can remember and at 18 I got into dance. These two passions guided me in the direction of group exercise because I value the importance of physical movement, having fun and enjoying what you’re doing.

meet Tom, your Grid Activist

Why did you get into fitness?

I was drawn to lifting weights at around 16/17 and at some point realised I could make some money out of it. I never really thought it would be something I would have career in, but here we are 22 years later. This industry has taken me all over the world and I have loved every minute of it.

What's your role as an Activist?

I oversee the creation of Virgin Active UK's Athletic Training concepts, including working to deliver exciting experiences, workshops and events for our members.

meet Nick, your Grid Activist

Why did you get into fitness?

I discovered fitness to work on myself first. I enjoyed the gym initially to compliment the sport I played and it grew into being part of my everyday routine. This then grew into wanting to help others lead the healthiest and fittest life they can.

What's your role as an Activist?

I focus on making sure our fitness experts provide the best in Grid Training, giving members all the skills and motivation needed to lift, sprint and sweat with confidence.

What is your top tip for Living Happily Ever Active?

Movement precedes intensity. Don't think a good workout is defined by how many reps or how fast you move, it's based on how you feel.

As the UK Boxing Lead, i'll be working on bagging the best talent, opening up the ring to all contenders and creating exciting workouts for our members.
