What is yoga - yin?
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine with postures that are held passively for longer stretches of time than in other styles. Poses are kept in stillness to create intentional light stress to joints and connective tissues, so increase physical mobility whilst also calming the nervous system. Postures will be low to the ground - either taken from seated or from lying on the floor with the addition of some props to support the needs of the individual.
Yin Yoga is a modern practice that ties together ancient concepts of TCM meridian lines of energy, yoga Chakra theory and Shamanic elements with up-to-date anatomical knowledge of connective tissues, fascia and psychology.
This style of yoga was created in the 1970s by martial arts expert and Taoist yoga teacher Paulie Zink and taken further by yoga teachers Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers as a complimentary practice to dynamic forms of movement and as an antidote to the stresses of modern life.
Please note, this is a slow, still practice so warm clothing is recommended.
