If you’re looking for advice on creating a training schedule and plan that works for you, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are our top tips for creating your own mix...

Define your workout goal

No matter what you’re training for, having a goal in mind will help you to focus your training and stay motivated when you don’t feel like coming into club. Keep your goal simple. It could be something like: I want to get fitter or I want to feel stronger.

We encourage you to also define how you want to feel after your training and build that into your goal. It could be something like: I want to lift my mood or I want to look after my mental wellbeing.

Find workouts that suit your goal

Once you know why you're working out, you’ll need to decide how you want to work towards your goal. Build exercises into your workout routine that will help you get there as well as things that you enjoy.

For example, if you’re looking to build muscle, you might try your favourite Strength and Conditioning class once a week or have a go at something new like Reformer Pilates. Make sure that you find enjoyment in at least one part of your workout every time you train.

Mix it up

Repeating the same exercises every week not only gets boring for your body but it also tires your mind. Re-energise your week by mixing up your workouts and adding a mixture of strength and cardio throughout your plan. We’ve got hundreds of classes running across our clubs each week so you’re bound to find something you love. What will you choose?

Build in active recovery days

Keep yourself active, even on rest days with light exercise that compliments your workout routine. That could be going for a leisurely swim, trying some yoga or even going for a walk. The most important thing is to keep moving.

Work out your schedule

Once you’ve figured out what workouts you want to do, you’ll next need to find time to fit them in. Define how many days you want to work out and when, based on your schedule. It’s best to give yourself plenty of time for your workout – make it a special part of your day. Book your classes up to 7 days in advance on our Virgin Active App. (Don't forget to cancel your workout as soon as you can if you know you can no longer attend.)

Deciding where you’ll train will also help you plan your schedule. Work out in club or enjoy online classes in our App whenever you want them, wherever you are. With multi-access, you can use your membership across all Virgin Active clubs excluding Mayfair, Kensington and Chiswick Riverside.

Don’t forget, if you need any more help with finding your unique mix, our team are more than happy to help you. Speak to a member of the team in club or find a Personal Trainer to get started. Not yet a Virgin Active member? Join us today.
