Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming

Dive into a career as a fully qualified Swimming Instructor with the Virgin Active Academy.

Why qualify as a Swimming Instructor?

No day is the same! From children to adults, every swimmer's journey will be different. You get to be a part of it from start to finish, helping to teach others an essential life skill that will boost their confidence and love of the water. Best of all? You don't need prior experience to get started.

When you're ready, the world is your oyster. Becoming a qualified Swimming Instructor opens the door for you to explore further avenues within the world of swimming, meaning you can expand your portfolio by going on to teach advanced swimming classes or swimming for children and adults with disabilities.

Why take your Swimming Instructor qualification with the Virgin Active academy?

Our expert trainers have years of experience in the leisure industry and are here to support you in taking the next step in your career. The technical and vocational skills that you pick up on this course will allow you to go on to independently teach your very own class of 12 participants, from non-swimmers up to improvers.

This course will cover the following:

  • The safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Planning, delivering, assessing and evaluating swimming lessons
  • The role of a swimming teacher
  • The health and safety requirements for an aquatic environment
  • The scientific and learning theories relevant to teaching swimming.

Signing up with Virgin Active means you'll be able to give your CV an added touch of sparkle with a nationally recognised Safety Training Awards (STA) qualification. And, if you fancy taking on another of our qualifications, we'll give you a discount on your next course.

How will the course be assessed?

You will be assessed through the completion of worksheets, schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching, with an external assessment on the final day of the course.
