Salford Quays Relaunch

12 Oct 2015

  • Virgin Active Salford Quays re-launches this month following a £4.5 million refurb
  • The club now features new top of the range equipment and Virgin Active’s most popular innovation of 2015 ‘The Grid’
  • Brand new ‘Get to Grips’ classes boost motivation and beat ‘gymtimidation’

Virgin Active’s Salford Quays club has undergone a £4.5 million refurb, relaunching with industry-leading facilities from health and fitness innovators around the world. The refurb has seen the club’s gym floor, group exercise studios, changing rooms and swimming pool transformed with an additional 1400 square feet being added to the club.

The club will feature Virgin Active’s most popular innovation of 2015 ‘The Grid’, a functional training space where members can take one of four intense 30 minute classes, each one based on six core movements of push, pull, squat, lunge, twist and bend. The classes have all been designed to help members achieve a particular goal and Grid Lean, Grid Active, Grid Strong and Grid Fit programmes use a variety of obstacles, equipment and body weight training that can burn up to 500 calories per class.

On top of the addition of this, the club’s spacious location now contains additional world-class training equipment and innovation that’s synonymous with Virgin Active including:

  • Members will now be able to cycle like Wiggins with technically advanced Watt bikes. Every pedal turn is analysed to make sure users are riding as efficiently as possible and correct their technique ensuring they are well balanced and reaching their maximum power output.
  • The Woodway Curve is another innovative new addition; a green treadmill, powered by users and providing the closest experience to outdoor running with its curved design.
  • InBody Trackers and Water Rowers
  • A fully refurbished swimming pool, spa, steam and sauna area

To make sure that members are taking full advantage of the new and improved club, Virgin will be bringing its ‘Get to Grips’ range of classes to members, introducing them to new ways to work out.  The 30 minute classes will help members get comfortable with new activities and walk away with a personalised action plan. Classes will include getting to grips with cardio, abs and core, stretching and self-massage, weight training, functional training and group exercise. All six sessions will be available a Salford Quays and bookable online.

With over 30 industry leading classes on the timetable each week, including ZUU, Twentyfour and BURN 360, the group exercise studios have had a complete makeover, doubling in size. The brand new Group Cycle studio has been kitted out with 36 top end Technogym bikes that offer members a world class group exercise experience.

Shaun Cassidy, General Manager of Virgin Active Salford Quays said: “At Salford we have got everything you need to discover more from your  fitness routine – from the Grid and latest equipment on the gym floor,  to Group Cycle in the studio to our newly upgraded swimming pool, there is something here for everyone.

“It is hugely exciting to reveal our completely refurbished club with its new look and feel to the community. On behalf of the team, I want to thank our members for their patience during the refurbishment.  We hope the new facilities were worth the wait and will inspire and motivate more local people to come and see all that Virgin Active has to offer’’.

The changing rooms have also had a full refit, including new showers, lockers and luxury touches such as GHD hair straighteners.

The Salford Quays club refurbishment is part of Virgin Active’s three year £100m investment programme that’s taking place in clubs up and down the UK.
